24 Aug 2016 – The Night Swim

Now here’s an unusual event! Possibly for the brave; possibly for the adrenaline junkies; possibly for a peaceful swim – it depends on how you feel about swimming in the dark. For me, it was just a calm swim in still, flat water under the stars.
After a few minutes getting tangled with people’s toes I decided to get in front and was lucky enough to stay there – just. I might have gone without the wet-suit (as did one of the ladies) if I’d not raced a tri beforehand but actually an hour’s drive each way for just a 20-minute swim doesn’t make a lot of sense.
With a pair of glow-sticks sticking out from our goggle-straps making us look rather like traditional Martians, we simply followed the marker lights out and back, 500m each way. Simples. The paddle-boarders were carrying lights too – head torches – but found that these attracted the mozzies (or whatever the local bugs are) in huge numbers so had to turn them off for most of the time. No matter, it was fine. The hardest part was judging the distance to the turn and finish lights.
Nice – I’ll do it again and you should know there are no monsters in the lake, except perhaps us in our black rubber wetsuits and antennae. We all got out intact. Well done people, it was nice.

20 Jul 2016 – Evening tri

This was just 1 entry short of the biggest turnout ever and a very pleasant evening for racing. Well done everyone.
Here’s an attempt at a photo gallery:

21 Aug 2013 – Evening tri

A perfect evening saw a small yet select field of 13 athletes (all men ! ) take on the sprint course. Previous winner Adam Eastwood did the damage again on the bike and held off fast-finishing Ian Forrest with Dan Harlott taking 3rd spot.

24 Jul 2013 – Evening tri

Well done to long term competitor Adam Eastwood who takes his first win and Pip Jenkins who led the ladies home. Also to a good turn out from Ashford Tri Club and to Gordon Pau for making this his triathlon debut – cycling from Folkestone (and back !) as a warm up.

06 Oct 2012 – Aquathon

Due to the heavy rain which was still coming down early Saturday the bike leg was removed and a 500m swim / 5.3k run raced instead.  However, as soon as 9am (start time) was reached the rain stopped and the skies started to clear – typical ! The first five back from the run were within a minute of each other with the relay team of John Wilson and Lloyd Smith just holding off a fast-finishing Jamie Box.  The ladies were led home by Vicky Smith.  Special mention to Randolph Burt who came down for his first ever Triathlon but still managed to complete his debut multisport race.

01 Sep 2012 – Saturday triathlon

Although overcast it stayed dry and there was virtually no wind – amazing for Lydd . It was great to see a few new faces amongst the growing band of regulars , the recent winner of our Medway Tri , Jamie Gibson , paid us a visit and lead out of the swim , the bike and the run to take the honours for the men . Meanwhile the ladies top prize was taken by Larkfield AC ‘s Bridget Ostrehan , putting in solid performances in all 3 disciplines . We also had 4 relay teams racing , a great way to get involved  if you are not yet ready to tackle all 3 at once.

11 Aug 2012 – Saturday triathlon

It was one of the better days for the weather on the marshes and 28 athletes turned up for the 500mswim/20kbike/5.3krun – it was Ant Newton who took the win for the men whilst Julie Langdon crossed the line first for the ladies – we may well hold another if a spare Saturday morning can be found .My thanks also go to Roy and Trish Beeley of 1066 tri club who turned up and helped out at registration and marshalling at the road junction .

11 July 2012 – Midweek tri in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital
