Have you ever raced abroad ? If you have then you will know how easy it is , if you havn’t then why not have a go ? I raced the Indeman Triathlon back in June which was a middle-distance race .I entered on-line from here , travelled over to Calais on the Friday via the shuttle and then drove the motorway route down to Aachen which took just over 3 hours (toll-Free!) .Leaving the motorway it was only another 10mins to the town of Eischweiler where i had pre-booked a room at the Best Western Hotel . Registration opened on the saturday at the HQ which was only 10mins drive away , the German officials were very pleasent , most of them spoke good English and the whole process was smooth . It also gave the opportunity to check out the course and swim venue , which was a large freshwater lake . It also transpired that there were two transistions , one lakeside and the other at HQ . On the Sunday we racked first at the lake and shuttle buses took everyone between the two . There was plenty of time as the race didn’t start until 11am !. It was also on closed roads , most of which were flat with the occaisional climb including the “Indeman” itself , the fastest time of which had a separate prize , nothing too serious though , it was only 3 mins aprox . The course was very well marshalled , well signed , plenty of feed and water stations and good crowd support on the run .
There are also two supporting races , a sprint (500m/20k/5k) @ 35 euros , an Olympic (1500m/44k/10k ) @45 euros as well as the middle distance (1900m/80k/20k ) @ 70 euros . Excellent value for money ! The whole event worked out no more than travelling way up north to do a similar race .
If you are interested in coming out next year as an informal group to race then drop me an e-mail (velocityevents@fsmail.net ) , i can take 6 bikes easily in my van , check out the race website www.indeland-triathlon.de , then put it on google translate !
